Joanne Y. Jaxtimer joined Mellon Financial Corporation in February 1995. As first vice president and director of Corporate Affairs, she is responsible for managing a wide range of external and internal operations, including Public and Media Relations, Community and Government Relations, Mellon Charitable Giving Program, Employee Communications, Events Management and Graphic Arts. Formerly, Joanne was the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Boston University Medical Center (BUMC) where she oversaw all aspects of communications and was a spokesperson at the state, city and community level. She also directed charitable giving for Boston University Medical Center Hospital. Prior to that, Joanne held the position of Senior Vice President of External Affairs at University Bank and Community Relations Manager at Bank of Boston. In the public arena, Joanne had served on Mayor Thomas Menino's Transition Committee as a member of the Public Safety Task Force. She is currently vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, and also serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Association, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth (MassINC), The Partnership, Reach Out and Read, National Braille Press, and the National Conference for Community and Justice. In addition, she is active in a variety of community organizations including; the Committee to End Elder Homelessness; Center for Collaborative Leadership; and the YWCA, which selected her to join the Academy of Women Achievers, Class of 2001. Joanne graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart with a B. A. in Psychology in 1975. She lives in Milton, Massachusetts with her husband, Michael Barry, and their son, Michael, whom they adopted from Ecuador.
