Howard P Milstein

Mr. Milstein is Chairman and CEO of the family’s business operations, including New York Private Bank & Trust Corporation (the holding Company for Emigrant Savings Bank), Milstein Properties, and various Milstein Brothers operations in real estate development and management in New York and Chicago. Mr. Milstein Chairs as founding Partner FriedbergMilstein, an alternative asset investment manager. His father, Paul Milstein continues as Chairman Emeritus of all major entities, and his brother Edward serves as Co- Chairman. Mr. Milstein has served as a member of the Investment Committee for Cornell University’s $4 billion endowment for more than 10 years, and has chaired its Real Estate Sub-Committee for more than 20 years, achieving top quartile returns throughout the period and frequently achieving the #1 rating in its endowment universe. He has also guided the investments of the New York Blood Center’s $200 million endowment as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Milstein’s other civic and philanthropic efforts include: Chairman of the American Skin Association; Trustee Emeritus and Presidential Counselor, Cornell University, and Overseer, Cornell Medical College. He is a member of Cornell’s Investment Committee and Chairs its Real Estate Sub Committee; he is a member of the Harvard Law School Visiting Committee and of the Executive Committee of the HLS Dean’s Advisory Board. In Washington, D.C., he serves on the National Board of the Smithsonian, and on the Board of the Shakespeare Theater. HOWARD P. MILSTEIN started his career at SG Warburg Paribas Becker. Today, he is a co-chairman, president and chief executive officer of Emigrant Savings Bank, and chairman of its holding company, New York Private Bank & Trust, which he built into the largest privately owned bank in the the U.S. As the third generation of one of New York City’s most distinguished real estate families, he is a managing partner of Milstein Properties, an investment builder active in both residential and commercial development primarily in New York City. He is also founding chairman of the merchant bank, Friedberg Milstein and chairs MB Real Estate, a national commercial leasing and management company in the U.S. Increasingly, Mr. Milstein’s business interests have extended internationally. Among these is his most recent venture - a partnership with golf legend, Jack Nicklaus, which will extend the reach of the Nicklaus empire worldwide to golf course designs, clothing, equipment and real estate. The reach of his philanthropy extends internationally as well. Through the New York City Citizens Crime Commission Milstein Criminal Justice Policy Forum, he has hosted such British notables as: then-British Home Secretary John Reid; former MI6 Director, Sir Richard Dearlove; Sir Ian Blair, Superintendent of the London Metropolitan Police and Sir Jeremy Greenstock. In addition, Mr. Milstein is a Fellow of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award World Fellowship and President of the William Smith International Performance Scholarship at the Royal College of Music in London. Milstein Family generosity has made a difference at many iconic New York institutions including: the Milstein Hospital Building at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center; the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life at The American Museum of Natural History; the Milstein Division of Local History, American History and Genealogy at the New York Public Library. Beyond New York, Mr. Milstein’s civic and philanthropic efforts include his service as chairman of the American Skin Association and New York Blood Center; and on the Boards of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the United Hospital Fund. He is an international trustee of the Musical Arts Association of Cleveland. In Washington, DC, he serves on the national board of the Smithsonian, and on the boards of the Corcoran Museum and the Shakespeare Theatre. In addition, he is actively engaged with Cornell University and Harvard Law School. Mr. Milstein is member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and the Economic Club of New York. Mr. Milstein earned a B.A in Economics, summa cum laude, from Cornell in 1973 and earned JD/MBA degrees from Harvard in 1977.
