Lawrence Weinbach, who as chief of Andersen Worldwide in the 1990s stoked growth that fueled partnership conflict before the accounting and consulting firm’s ultimate demise, died May 1, according to Discover Financial Services, where he chaired the board. He was 80. Mr. Weinbach is a partner in Yankee Hill Capital Management LLC, a private equity firm. On January 31, 2006, he retired as Chairman of the Board of Unisys Corporation, a worldwide information services and technology company. Mr. Weinbach joined Unisys in September 1997 as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. In January 2004, his title changed to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and he held the position of Chairman from January 2005 until his retirement. He previously was Managing Partner-Chief Executive of Andersen Worldwide, a global professional services organization from 1989 to 1997 and had held various senior executive positions with Andersen for a number of years prior thereto. Mr. Weinbach is a director of Discover Financial Services, Quadra Realty Trust, Inc. and UBS, AG.
