As chief executive officer of Aon Re Global, Andrew M. Appel is responsible for building and executing our strategic growth priorities and continuing to define and strengthen our leadership position in the market. A member of Aon’s executive committee, Appel serves as executive sponsor for several global and regional clients, working closely with Aon business leaders around the globe to ensure our priority initiatives have client and stakeholder impact. Appel joined Aon in 2005 as chief executive officer of Aon Consulting, Aon’s human capital and management consulting operation. In this role, he successfully aligned the team’s global consulting operations and expertise with the single goal of helping clients shape the workforce of the future through benefits, talent and rewards strategies and solutions. Under Appel's leadership, Aon Consulting grew revenues by 7.7 percent and improved margins by 5.9 percent to industry-leading levels, while being named the most client-focused organization in the industry two years in a row. He continues to serve as chairman of Aon Consulting. Prior to joining Aon, Appel spent 15 years at McKinsey, most recently as a senior partner in McKinsey’s Financial Services and Technology Practices, manager of the firm’s Chicago, Atlanta and Canadian Business Technology Offices and member of the firm’s Global Technology Operating and Practice Committees. In these roles, Appel served senior executives with the world’s leading insurance, investment banking and financial services companies, focusing on product- and distribution-related strategies, trading and capital markets strategies, operations, technology, post-merger and performance improvement. Born in Los Angeles, Appel holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, where he was the Henry Ford II scholar. Prior to business school, he was Chief Operating Officer of a regional brokerage firm. Appel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated magna cum laude.
