Paul J Bonavia

Paul Bonavia is president of Xcel Energy’s Utilities Group. This group comprises the four operating companies of Xcel Energy: Northern States Power Company Minnesota, Northern States Power Company Wisconsin, Public Service Company of Colorado, Southwestern Public Service Company; and five major functional areas: Asset Management, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Resource Planning and Acquisition, and Transmission. Bonavia was previously president of the company’s Energy Markets Unit. Before the merger between Northern States Power Co. and New Century Energies (NCE) to form Xcel Energy, he was senior vice president and general counsel of NCE and president of its International business unit. Bonavia was elected to the board of directors of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) in June 2007 -- the first utility member to be elected to the board. He has served as trustee of Drake University, the Colorado Symphony Association, the Virginia Literacy Foundation and the Florida Shakespeare Festival. Bonavia earned a bachlor's degree from Drake University, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law and completed the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
