Carey Maloney, with his husband, Hermes Mallea co-founded the award-winning architecture and interior design practice, M(Group). The couple began volunteering at the Library in 1985 and went on to chair the Young Friends of the NYPL (now the Young Lions), the Family Cubs programs, and are currently co-chairs of the Library’s LGBTQ+ Initiative. Maloney served on the Board of Trustees of the Library as the ex-officio representative of the New York City Council from 2014 to 2018. He also served as treasurer of the MAC AIDS Fund which donated over $500 million to fight AIDS. Maloney’s monograph, STUFF: The M(Group) Interactive Guide to Collecting, Decorating with, and Learning About Wonderful and Unusual Things (Pointed Leaf Press, 2012) garnered extensive press coverage for its innovative use of digital technology. Maloney, a native Texan, is a graduate of Trinity University and received an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
