Known as the Godfather of Silicon Valley, he was an early investor in Google, Facebook, Twitter and Paypal. Registered as a Republican until 2012, he has been politically active nationally and locally. He commented in 2010 that “we must take our city back” from “progressives.” He backed Ed Lee for Mayor of San Francisco, and after winning the election, created sf.citi to "keep the momentum going."
