Amy McGrath is a former U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot who served 20 years on active duty, flying 89 combat missions against al-Qaeda and the Taliban and becoming the first woman to fly a Marine Corps combat mission and the F/A-18 in combat. After retiring in 2017, she entered politics as a Democrat, running unsuccessfully for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District in 2018 and for the U.S. Senate in 2020 against Mitch McConnell, where she set fundraising records but lost the general election. A Naval Academy graduate with advanced degrees from Georgetown and Johns Hopkins, McGrath has also worked as a congressional adviser and taught political science at the U.S. Naval Academy. She has announced plans to run again for the U.S. Senate in 2026.
