As a gay, Mexican-American woman who grew up in Texas, in a catholic family, she has knowledge of the struggle that teens can go through trying to find their place in a society that does not reflect who they are on the inside or on the outside. As a result, she continues to spread the word about the need for The Trevor Project throughout her community in New York and in Texas.
