Alice B. Hayes, President emerita of the University of San Diego, President of the University of San Diego from 1995 to July 2003. Executive Vice President and Provost of Saint Louis University from 1989 to 1995. Director of Jack in the Box, Inc. Ms. Hayes has been a director of Conagra since August 3, 2001. Her current term expires September 20, 2007. As President of the University of San Diego since 1995, Dr. Alice Hayes has already captured the regard and respect of the entire community. Her expansive resume is impressive but it is only a brief summary of a life committed to education, caring and contribution. Applauding a fraction of her many and varied accomplishments begins with a brief history of a remarkable life. A native of Chicago, Alice Hayes received her B.S. in Biology from Mundelein College where she was Magna cum laude, among other honors. Alice then received her M.S. in Botany from the University of Illinois in Urbana where she was named a University Fellow in Botany, she proceeded to receive her Ph.D. at Northwestern University where she was named National Science Foundation Fellow. Dr. Hayes spent 27 years at Loyola University of Chicago where she served as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean for the Natural Sciences, prior to then she was Chairperson of the Department of Natural Sciences. From 1960 to 1962, Dr. Hayes conducted mycology research for the Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. Before becoming President at the University of San Diego, Alice Hayes served for six years as Executive Vice President and Provost and Professor of Biology at Saint Louis University. Dr. Hayes is a member of the Boards of Trustees of the Pulitzer Publishing Company, the Old Globe Theater, Independent Colleges of Southern California, the San Diego Historical Society, and Catholic Charities. She has been member of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Space Biology Program and has served on Advisory Panels of the National Science Foundation.
