He previously served as Senior Vice President of Principal Financial Group, Inc. since 2001 and Senior Vice President of Principal Life Insurance Company since 1998. Prior to that Mr. Sorensen served as a senior executive of American International Group, Inc. (insurance services) from 1989 to 1997. He became a director of Sara Lee in October 2007. He serves as Vice Chairman and director of the International Insurance Society and director of the U.S. Coalition of Service Industries. Mr. Sorensen also is a member of the Financial Services Roundtable and the Council on Foreign Relations. Age 63.
