NEWS RELEASES January 23, 2019 Eric Parrado appointed as new chief economist for the IDB The Inter-American Development Bank announced today that starting March 1 Eric Parrado Herrera will take over as the new chief economist and general manager of the IDB’s Research Department. A Chilean national, Parrado is Professor of Economics and Finance at the ESE Business School of Universidad de los Andes in Santiago, Chile, and visiting professor at the University of Oxford and the Central European University. He is also a member of the Global Future Council on Financial and Monetary Systems of the World Economic Forum, where he works with other top experts on issues that impact financial systems, such as regulatory changes and the appropriate use of data. His previous positions include Chairman and Superintendent of the Banking Authority of Chile, and International Finance Coordinator of the Ministry of Finance of Chile, where he managed the Chilean sovereign funds and promoted a set of best practices known as the “Santiago Principles.” He was also a Senior Economist and Financial Stability Manager at the Central Bank of Chile, as well as Economist at the International Monetary Fund. Throughout his career, Mr. Parrado has worked in the area of monetary, fiscal, and financial policies, advising central banks in the management of inflation targeting regimes, implementing sovereign wealth funds in several countries, and participating in the advance of reforms such as banking modernization and financial inclusion.
