"A massive education-work revolution is upon us as the epicenter of education shifts toward employers." With the high cost of college and the inability of institutions to adapt fast enough to provide the work-relevant #credentials learners need, employers will continue driving the change in #highered. By partnering with universities, more individuals will receive the #access needed to reskill and upskill in their careers, helping connect them with available opportunities. http://bit.ly/38H59oN

I am thrilled to announce WGU's recognition as the #1 2020-2021 Military Friendly School for service members, veterans, and their families. 23 years ago, WGU was founded to increase #access to high-quality, affordable #highered. WGU currently serves nearly 15,000 active-duty or veteran students and 900 military spouses or dependents. We're truly humbled to serve the brave men and women who protect and defend our country, as well as their family members. http://bit.ly/39sP2v6

ICYMI: a new report from Georgetown University explores the labor-market value of certificate programs, reporting that 94% of certificates awarded are in career-oriented fields. Because certificates and other #microcredentials can be earned more quickly and at a lower cost, today’s learners are able to obtain the job-relevant skills they need. The expansion of high-quality, job-relevant microcredentials is key to helping connect talent with opportunity in the future of work. The four-year degree remains valuable but is not the only path to increased earnings and a chance for a better life for individuals and their families. #InnovationWins https://lnkd.in/g-RMvcJ

A new survey from Handshake finds that nearly 75% of Gen Z graduates will graduate with #studentdebt. Their VP of Higher Education and Student Success, Christine Cruzvergara shares what that means for students: “Over 60% percent of them are more than willing to take the first job that they receive – the first offer that they receive – because they’re worried about being able to pay back their loans.” It’s no secret that #highered needs to be more affordable. Yet, more often than not, the focus is on increasing funding, through endowments and federal financial aid, rather than on reducing costs and increasing value. It’s time for universities and policymakers to change the conversation about college affordability from how to pay for college, to how to make it more affordable and accessible, because reducing college costs is key to ending the debt crisis.
