Louis L. Rana is president and chief operating officer of Consolidated Edison Company of New York, a position to which he was elected effective September 1, 2005. Previously, Mr. Rana was senior vice president of Electric Operations, where he served since February 2003. In that position, he had overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the company’s electric system in New York City and Westchester County. Mr. Rana joined Con Edison in 1969, and has held positions of increasing responsibility in electric operations, system operations, and engineering. He was appointed chief engineer of Distribution Engineering in 1993; he served as general manager of Manhattan Electric Operations in 1997, and general manager of System Operations during 1997 and 1998. Mr. Rana was named vice president of System and Transmission Planning in 1998 and vice president of Manhattan Electric Operations in 2000. Mr. Rana is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Research Advisory Committee for the Electric Power Research Institute. He is a member of the National Academies’ Committee on Enhancing the Robustness and Resilience of Future Electric Transmission and Distribution in the US to Terrorist Attack, and a member of the advisory committee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Allen Pavilion. He is also a board member of the Avenue of Americas Association, Inc., the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering. Mr. Rana holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a master’s in business administration from Columbia University. He resides in Chappaqua, New York.
