Miriam Haas, who goes by Mimi, is a philanthropist and the widow of Peter Haas, a scion of the Strauss family that made its fortune in Levi jeans. He died in 2005. She has two adult children, Ari and Daniel, from a previous marriage to Brian Lurie, a rabbi. She serves as a trustee of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Haas received a degree from George Washington University, where she majored in political science.
