Mr. Roderick was the former chairman and CEO of U.S. Steel and a Latrobe Pennsylvania resident, splitting time between there and Orlando, Florida. David Milton Roderick, 95, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019. He grew up on Pittsburgh’s North side. He attended Robert Morris College at night, earning a degree in accounting and law. He also gained a B.S. degree in economics and finance from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined U.S. Steel in 1959 and remained with the company until his retirement in 1989. He was on the board of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club. Mr. Roderick also worked with Arnold Palmer in founding the Winne Palmer Nature Reserve at St. Vincent College to honor the renowned golfer's wife. Mr. Roderick was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth J. “Betty” Roderick. He is survived by Rebecca C. Fisher, his dear companion for 23 years; children David M. Roderick Jr. and wife Nancy, of Ligonier, Patrica Roderick Morton and husband Thruston, of Charlotte, N.C, and Thomas K. Roderick and wife Susan, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
