DARPA anticipates that success will require breakthroughs in molecular pharmacology and functional chemical neurophysiology. The scheduled four-year program will not include human clinical trials, but by the end researchers must have an Investigational New Drug application ready to submit to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
