Floyd Dewey Gottwald Sr

Floyd Dewey Gottwald Sr., former chairman of the Ethyl Corporation of Richmond, Va., died Saturday in Richmond. He was 84 years old. Mr. Gottwald continued as vice chairman of the company after he was succeeded in 1968 by his son, Floyd D. Jr. Mr. Gottwald, who was born in Richmond, joined the Albemarle Paper Manufacturing Company in 1918 and became president in 1941. In 1962 the company purchased the Ethyl Corporation and assumed its corporate name. Besides his son, Mr. Gottwald is survived by his wife, Anne; another son, Bruce D.; a brother, W. Douglas Gottwald Sr., all of Richmond; six grandsons and three great grandchildren.
