I’ve been active in the creation of educational policy for assessment, accountability and restructuring for more than 40 years. Previously, I was the Executive Director of the Institute for Public School Initiatives at University of Texas, Austin. I also served as the Chair of the National Assessment Governing Board until 2009 and am currently an Advisor to the Governing Board’s 12th Grade Preparedness Commission. In my career, I’ve served as an adviser to the U.S. Secretary of Education and to four Texas Governors. I’ve also contributed as a member of the Task Force on Education, Vice Chair of the Governor’s Focus on Reading Task Force, and as a member of the Education Commissioner's Committee on Accountability.
