Matt Cooper

Matt Cooper is vice president and assistant general counsel for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Based in Seattle, Cooper leads the legal function for the world’s premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners, which had revenues of $66 billion in 2015 and more than 80,000 employees worldwide. Cooper was appointed to this position in April 2016 after holding several positions in the Boeing Law Department since 2012, most recently as chief counsel for Boeing Commercial Airplanes Sales, Strategy and Marketing. Before joining Boeing, Cooper was Of Counsel at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in Seattle, where his litigation practice focused on complex commercial cases and government investigations. He has also served in the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Houston, working in the Major Offenders Group, and worked in private practice at Houston-based law firm Gibbs & Bruns LLP. Cooper began his legal career as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Prior to attending law school, Cooper served as Captain in the U.S. Air Force, working as the Chief of Training Policy Analysis for the Air Education and Training Command’s Studies and Analysis Squadron. Cooper earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and political science from Seattle Pacific University, where he has also served as an adjunct professor, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
