Thomas J. Hansen is Vice Chairman of ITW. He is responsible for ITW’s worldwide Automotive Components and Fasteners, Construction Products, Fluids and Polymers, and its Industrial Metal and Plastic businesses. Mr. Hansen joined ITW in 1980 as Sales and Marketing Manager of the Shakeproof Industrial Products businesses, which manufacture fasteners for the general industrial markets. He was named General Manager of the Shakeproof Industrial Products division in 1983. He was promoted to Vice President & General Manager of the North American Industrial Metal Fastener and Buckle divisions in 1986. He became President of ITW’s North American Industrial and Automotive fastener businesses in 1990 and was appointed President of its worldwide Metal Fastener and Components businesses in 1993. Mr. Hansen was elected Executive Vice President in 1998 and added responsibility for the plastic components businesses. His duties were expanded to manage the Industrial Metals and Plastic segment in 2001, the Fluids & Polymers businesses in 2005, and the Construction businesses in 2006. Mr. Hansen was elected Vice Chairman in 2006. Before joining ITW, Mr. Hansen was employed by Singer Controls, now a division of Invensys, for five years in a variety of assignments including Regional Sales Manager and Plant Manager, and at General Electric as a Zone Sales Manager. Mr. Hansen graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Marketing, and received a MABA (Masters of Arts in Business Administration) from Governors State University in 1978. He also completed classes at Rutgers University’s Masters in Business Administration program prior to transferring to Chicago in 1975. Mr. Hansen is a past member of the General Motors Supplier Council and an active member of the Industrial Fastener Institute. He is past Chairman of ITW’s United Way Campaign and is currently involved in Junior Achievement as a committee member. Mr. Hansen is also a member of the Northern Illinois University’s Executive Club, is Chairman of ITW Better Government Council; and is on the Board of Trustees MAPI (Manufacturers Alliance).
