Randall E Mehrberg

At Exelon, Mehrberg is responsible for corporate strategy, communications, legal, information technology, supply, real estate, accounts payable and payroll functions. Under his leadership in his former role as Exelon’s general counsel, the company’s legal department established an award-winning pro bono program and an extensive diversity program that focuses on encouraging diversity within specialized and full-scale legal services providers. Prior to joining Exelon, Mehrberg was an equity partner in the Chicago law firm of Jenner & Block, where he had a broad-based litigation and transaction practice counseling large and small corporations, institutions, government entities and individuals. Mehrberg led the efforts of 65 major corporations in litigation through the Supreme Court of the United States in support of the diversity initiatives of the University of Michigan and its law school. Mehrberg is an active member of several boards including the board of directors of the Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited, the Museum of Science & Industry, the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Latin School of Chicago. In addition, he serves as chairman of the Northwestern University Law School Corporate Counsel Institute. Mehrberg also volunteers in numerous community and civic activities, for which he has been honored by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Chicago Bar Association, Catholic Charities, Hope Fair Housing, the city of Chicago, and the American Civil Liberties Union among others. The Judge Learned Hand Human Relations Award was established by the AJC in memory of a legendary figure, Judge Learned Hand, senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1924 to 1951. He was widely admired as a dean among American jurists and was famous for the extensive range of decisions that he rendered in over two thousand cases, especially in cases centering on questions of constitutional rights. Mehrberg is the 32nd recipient of the Judge Learned Hand Human Relations Award from AJC’s Chicago Chapter since the award’s inception in 1976.
