Dr. Jim Murdaugh was named the sixth president of Tallahassee Community College on October 18, 2010. Murdaugh joined the TCC family in 1999 as director of the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy (PTLEA). In 2003, he was promoted to assistant vice president and charged with leadership of the TCC Florida Public Safety Institute – home to a number of public safety education programs. While at TCC, Murdaugh has worked to strengthen student access and success, increase external funding for institutional priorities and build community coalitions while serving as the College’s point person for several grants, programs and services. Before coming to TCC, Murdaugh spent over 20 years working in criminal justice where he served in progressively responsible leadership positions. Murdaugh served 30 years in the United States Air Force Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. His service included active duty in both Gulf Wars. Murdaugh holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminology and a doctorate in public administration from Florida State University.
