Kathleen J Hempel

KATHLEEN J. HEMPEL former Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Fort Howard Corporation (paper mills; retired 1997). Whirlpool director since 1994 and director of Oshkosh Truck Corporation. Ms. Hempel joined Fort Howard Corporation in 1973 and served as its Senior Executive Vice President, Executive Vice President and Vice President of Human Resources prior to the 1997 merger with James River Corp. to form Fort James Corporation. She served as Vice Chairman of Fort Howard Corp. from 1992 to 1997. She has been a Director of Oshkosh Corporation (formerly Oshkosh Truck Corp) since 1997 and Whirlpool Corp. since June 1994. She serves as a Director of Visteon Corp. She served as a Director of AO Smith Corp. since 1998. She served as a Director of Fort Howard Corp. from 1979 to 1997 and Kennametal Inc. from 2000 to January 21, 2005. She served as an Independent Director of Actuant Corp. (formerly, Applied Power Inc.) from 2001 to January 2008. Ms. Hempel served a gubernatorial appointment to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. She served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers and a Member of the American Forest & Paper Association's Tissue Division Board. Ms. Hempel graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. She studied an MBA from Arizona State University in Tempe in 1984.
