Rick Welts

Rick Welts has served on our board of directors since October 2017. Since October 2011, Mr. Welts has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to joining the Warriors, Mr. Welts spent nine years with the Phoenix Suns, serving the organization as President and Chief Executive Officer for the last two seasons. Prior to joining the Suns, Mr. Welts enjoyed a successful 17-years (1982-1999) at the NBA league office in New York, where he ascended through the ranks to eventually become the league’s third-in-command as the Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer and President of NBA Properties. Mr. Welts currently serves as a board member of the Bay Area Council and the Warriors Community Foundation. He is also a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Direct Elect Committee, and the NBA’s Team Advisory Committee and Global Inclusion Council. Mr. Welts has been honored with multiple awards recognizing his significant contributions to promoting diversity, inclusion and equality in sports and society, including the Anti-Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty Award, the United States Tennis Association 2011 ICON Award, GLSEN’s (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) Respect Award and GLAAD’s (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Davidson/Valentini Award.
