Philanthropist and community leader Julia Lacy, 77, whose imprint can be found on nonprofits around the city, died Dec. 31 2016 at her weekend home in Culver. Lacy, matriarch of the Lacy family and wife of Andre B. Lacy, shunned the spotlight but worked quietly behind the scenes to advance causes close to her heart. Those included chairing The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and serving on the boards of Methodist Hospital Foundation, the Indianapolis Zoo, Day Nursery, the Denison University Board of Trustees and the Children’s Museum Guild. Lacy came to Indianapolis to serve as a psychiatric research assistant in 1961 after graduating from Denison University. She married Andre two years later, and the couple raised three sons. Lacy, who also leaves behind nine grandchildren, was married to Andre Lacy for 53 years. Her son Peter, is chief of staff with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
