Stephen Moffitt is a principal in the Washington, DC office of WHD Government Affairs. He brings more than 15 years of in-depth understanding and familiarity with the federal government. Mr. Moffitt joined the staff of Senator Nickles in February of 1994 and served as a legislative assistant until his promotion to legislative director in 2000. During his tenure, Steve helped secure more than $1.5 billion in Congressional adds for projects in Oklahoma including the establishment of a national veterans cemetery, a centralized training center for US Customs pilots, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service Center and Red Cross emergency call center. He also was instrumental in passage of the International Religious Freedom Act. Prior to joining the staff of Senator Nickles, Mr. Moffitt worked as a legislative assistant for Congressman Jim Saxton (R- NJ) focusing on defense, foreign policy and space exploration issues. In addition, Mr. Moffitt was the key staff member working with Congressman Saxton to successfully reverse the decision to close McGuire Air Force Base during the 1993 defense base closure round. Before joining the staff of Congressman Saxton, Mr. Moffitt worked at the 1991 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission, gaining intimate knowledge of base closure procedures. Mr. Moffitt is a native of California and the author of three books. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University.
