Daniel Gill, who served as CEO of Bausch + Lomb for over a decade, died Friday November 3 2017 at 81. Mr. Gill was born in Zeigler, Illinois, and spent his early career working as an auditor — he met his wife, Dorothy, while on an audit — and serving as vice president at multiple laboratories in Ohio and Illinois. He joined Bausch + Lomb in 1978 to head its soft contact lens division. He became president and chief operating officer of the company in 1980, and took on the CEO role a year later, according to past Democrat and Chronicle articles. Mr. Gill stepped down from the helm of the company in 1995. Mr. Gill was involved in many local organizations and institutions, including the University of Rochester and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.. He also served on national boards, such as those of Reebok International and Dial Corp. He spent his later years redesigning and reconstructing houses in Naples, Florida. He is survived by his wife and four children, Deborah Hilzinger, Denise Nash, Daniel Gill and Diane Denning. Together, the family formed the “six D’s.”
