G Craig Sullivan

Formerly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Clorox Company. Mr. Sullivan served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Clorox from 1992 to 2003. Prior to assuming that role in 1992, he served in various managerial positions at Clorox including group vice president responsible for both manufacturing and marketing of household products. Before joining Clorox, Mr. Sullivan held various sales management positions with The Procter & Gamble Company and American Express. Mr. Sullivan is also a director of Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Mattel, Inc. Craig Sullivan, the former CEO of Oakland conglomerate Clorox Co., died Dec. 7 at his San Francisco home after a nearly yearlong battle with colon cancer. He was 77. Sullivan worked at Clorox for 32 years, the last 11 as CEO, before retiring in 2003. Born March 31, 1940, in Huntington, N.Y., Sullivan grew up in an Irish Catholic family and attended Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, Mass. He graduated from Boston College in 1964 and began his career selling cake mixes to bodegas in Brooklyn for Proctor & Gamble before moving to the Bay Area to work for Clorox. He advanced through sales and management positions before being named vice president in 1981 and CEO and chairman in 1992. In 1992, Sullivan married Maureen Levitan. It was the second marriage for both, bringing together two adult children on her side and three on his. Sullivan is survived by his wife, Maureen Sullivan of San Francisco; children Katie Sullivan Morford and Mark Sullivan of San Francisco and Annie Cobb of New York; stepchildren Meagan Levitan of San Francisco and Kristin Dickerson of Morgan Hill; 10 grandchildren; and sisters Isabel Sullivan of Ireland and Sheila Greason Turpin of Florida.
