Brett Crawford

Mr. Crawford works extensively on trade regulation and consumer protection issues, including those related to unfair and deceptive trade practices, anticompetitive behavior, product warranties, consumer credit law, and product safety. Other areas of regulatory and policy experience include tax policy, economic development programs and incentives, financial institution regulation, and telecommunication device licensing. He has also assisted multiple clients and industry groups on the development and enforcement of mandatory and voluntary standards. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, Mr. Crawford served as the Secretary of Revenue for the State of Louisiana, during which time he spearheaded a major reorganization of the agency's administrative policy making and dispute resolution systems in order to improve agency accountability, transparency and efficiency. He advised the governor and legislature on tax policy and administration, while also overseeing the state's $800 million tax dispute and litigation portfolio. Mr. Crawford also served as the Executive Director of the Louisiana Economic Development Corporation, the state's economic development financing agency, where he was actively involved in the commercial lending and venture capital industries, as well as in the design and negotiation of economic development incentives. He is a 1996 graduate of the Venture Capital Institute.
