Mark Anderson came to The Wessel Group Inc. after working for more than thirty years in the U.S. labor movement on a wide range of international, economic policy and collective bargaining issues. Most recently, Anderson held elected leadership positions at the Food and Allied Service Trades Department (FAST), AFL-CIO, a coalition of unions representing some 3.5 million workers. He served as Secretary-Treasurer, then President, and between 2003 and joining The Wessel Group, he was a consultant to the organization’s current leadership. Prior to joining FAST, Anderson worked for the AFL-CIO for more than 20 years, serving as an international representative, policy director and director of the Federation’s Task Force on Trade. While at the AFL-CIO, Anderson, among other things, led the Federation’s work on issues relating to international trade and investment. In this capacity, he developed strategic campaigns and represented worker interests to the Congress and the Executive branch, as well as to international organizations such as the UN, WTO, and the OECD. During this period he worked on major trade legislation, as well as multilateral trade negotiations, including the Uruguay Round and North American Free Trade Agreement. Anderson holds a Bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College, a Master’s degree from The American University and began his career as a construction worker out of Laborer’s Local Union 230 in Hartford, Connecticut.
