A leading Democrat with over 25 years of legislative and administration experience, Halpin was a government affairs consultant for his own firm, Peter G. Halpin, LLP, and served in senior management capacities for several international and national government affairs firms. A prominent fixture on the Washington scene, Halpin served in the Clinton Administration as the Managing Director of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and as Director of Congressional Affairs for the office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. From 1978-1984, Pete was the Political Director/Manager of Chicago Staff Operations Illinois State Senate President Philip Rock. A third-generation Chicagoan, Halpin received his BA in Political Science from Illinois Benedictine College and then earned his MSIR from Loyola University Institute of Industrial Relations.
