Named a 2014 Rising Star by City & State, Sam Nagourney brings a wealth of knowledge of New York City and State politics to Hilltop, as well as experience on local and national public affairs campaigns in a variety of issue areas. As Finance Manager for Bill de Blasio’s Mayoral race, Sam helped raise $6.3 million for the general election and another $2 million for the transition. Before joining Mayor de Blasio’s campaign, Sam was Deputy Campaign Manager for Councilwoman Gale Brewer’s successful bid for Manhattan Borough President. On Brewer’s campaign, he was responsible for development and execution of the strategic plan, including election and assembly district turnout analysis, email and direct mail, fundraising, union outreach, events, and GOTV. Additionally, Sam directly managed the staff and interns and oversaw the volunteer program, plugging 200+ community members into various activities borough-wide to highlight the candidate’s track record and dedication. Prior to the Manhattan Borough President race, Sam was Finance Manager for Congressman Jerrold Nadler. Before getting involved with campaigns, Sam was an associate at Group Gordon, a strategic communications firm based in New York. There, he worked with clients in a variety of issue areas, including education, health, affordable housing, economics, and civil rights, to push their agendas among target audiences and establish them as leaders in their fields. He developed messaging, executed social media campaigns, and secured top-tier media coverage for clients such as Enterprise Community Partners, Democrats for Education Reform, the American Human Development Project, and New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. Sam holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College. After graduation, Sam implemented an animal husbandry microfinance grant in Moshi, Tanzania before returning to New York.
