Lori Kalani

Recognized as one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business by Chambers USA and a “Woman Worth Watching” by Profiles in Diversity Journal and Diversity Journal: Women Worth Watching, Lori specializes in representing clients in responding to and resolving inquiries and investigations brought by State AGs, as well as counseling clients with respect to building relationships and advocating effectively to achieve strategic business and legal goals. Lori draws upon extensive experience, gleaned both while in-house at a Fortune 200 company and in private practice, to formulate and execute strategies that combine her legal experience with political and policy insight for clients at public and private companies across a wide variety of industries, including finance, nutrition, social media, telecommunications, retail, transportation, and dietary supplements. Just a small sample of her work on behalf of clients before State AGs, state legislatures, Congress, and regulatory agencies includes representing clients in responding to and resolving a wide-variety of consumer protection, environmental, and regulatory inquiries, investigations, and litigations; developing comprehensive antitrust strategies that advance clients’ interests; devising multistate approaches to respond effectively to external complaints about business practices; and identifying opportunities to work with State AGs across the country on state and federal legislation efforts. BACKGROUND Lori’s background and perspective from her years as in-house counsel allows her to understand and serve not only her clients’ legal needs, but their business and strategic objectives as well. From 2002 through 2009, she was Director of Government Affairs and Senior Corporate Counsel for DISH Network, a Fortune 200 company and leading national pay television provider. In that role, she directly managed the company’s relationships and advocacy with State AGs, state legislatures, state and federal regulatory agencies, and the U.S. House and Senate on a variety of communications policy and tax issues. She managed and oversaw investigations and advised business units on regulatory and privacy matters and compliance program development. After leaving DISH Network, Lori established and led the State Attorneys General Practice at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, until departing to join Dickstein Shapiro. She is actively involved in AG organizations and programs throughout the country, including serving as an advisory board member on the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) Alliance Partnership, a program involving the CWAG, the National Association of Attorneys General, and other public and private entities. Lori also served as the chair of the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association, the national trade association of the satellite industry. She worked at the Federal Communications Commission before joining DISH Network.
