Kevin Patrick McMahon, a firm partner, practices in Washington, D.C. in the areas of government affairs and regulatory law. A member of the District of Columbia Bar and the South Carolina Bar, Mr. McMahon has extensive experience in legislative and regulatory affairs, federal marketing, issue advocacy, and public policy analysis. rior to joining Nelson Mullins in 2004, Mr. McMahon served as Vice President of Government Affairs for TRW Corporation where he managed all aspects of their legislative, regulatory and business development activities before Congress, the Executive Branch, and state governments. From 1987 through 1990, Mr. McMahon served as legal counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. As a professional staff member to U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, his areas of concentration included commercial law, antitrust, bankruptcy, product liability law and other civil justice issues. He is well-versed in legislative process and procedure. Organization and direction of a coalition of auto safety advocates to lobby and defeat a DOT/NHTSA federal regulation that would have allowed for the indiscriminate disconnection of driver and passenger-side airbags. In recognition of this effort, Mr. McMahon received the 1998 Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil award which recognizes outstanding public policy advocacy campaigns. On behalf of the Product Liability Coordinating Committee (PLCC), developed legislative strategies and orchestrated the coalition's lobbying effort which gained passage of the Product Liability Fairness Act. Service as legal counsel to the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee on legislative issues and judicial nominations, served as lead professional staff member responsible for managing conference committee negotiations that led to the enactment of the Civil Justice Reform Act. Mr. McMahon has completed coursework at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in pursuit of a Master's degree in International Business Development. In 1987, he earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a recipient of the L. Marion Gressette Scholarship and the Sol Abrams Scholarship. Mr. McMahon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1983, and completed a senior-honors research project in the field of political communications.
