Maki Hishikawa

Ms. Hishikawa, Director of Japan Research, is an expert in researching and analyzing intricate webs of corporations, complex government regulations, government-private sector relationships in Asian countries, and particularly the impact of these factors on foreign access to Japanese markets in a wide variety of industries. She has been centrally engaged in Dewey & LeBoeuf's Japan trade matters since 1996. Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf, Ms. Hishikawa served as an investigative reporter for the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan’s largest business daily. She has more than a decade of experience in investigative work. A Japanese native, her bilingual skills have allowed her to conduct extensive research and analyze a vast amount of Japanese language materials. Her detailed findings and analysis have contributed to the firm’s services in assisting clients in, among other things, making investment decisions with respect to a corporation located in Japan, improving internal compliance programs and resolving market access problems, including the domestic industry’s anticompetitive activities, closed distribution system, the government’s discriminatory actions in licensing, regulation and procurement, and foreign investment rules. Her analyses of Japanese regulations, legal framework and regulatory reform initiatives that have affected corporate decisions have also been published in numerous publications, including the Journal of Commerce, Asian Wall Street Journal, and a leading Japanese business journal, Ekonomisuto. Ms. Hishikawa has also made speeches on Japan’s policies and its implications for the US-Japan relationship to various groups, including the roundtable discussion forum for US government officials participating in the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation ("Mansfield Foundation").
