Donald R Keough

Mr. Keough is nonexecutive Chairman of the Board of Allen & Company Incorporated, a privately held investment firm, and nonexecutive Chairman of the Board of Allen & Company LLC, an investment banking firm, and has held these positions for more than the past five years. Mr. Keough retired as President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of the Company in April 1993, positions he had held since March 1981. He was again elected as a Director in February 2004. He is a Director of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Convera Corporation and IAC/InterActiveCorp. Keough is chairman of the board of Allen & Company Inc., a New York investment banking firm. He retired as president and chief operating officer of The Coca-Cola Company in 1993 and continues as a member of the Board of Directors. A member of the University's Board of Trustees since 1978, he served as board chair from 1986 to 1991. Keough worked in a Sioux City stockyard as a teen, served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and in 1949 wedded Marilyn “Mickie” Mulhall. They remained married for more than 60 years. Around the same time, Keough earned a degree in philosophy from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., where he later was briefly a broadcaster at a local TV station. He became friends with two of his Omaha neighbors who later became fabulously famous: investor Warren Buffett and Tonight Show host Johnny Carson. But Keough’s path to Coke began quietly as an assistant advertising manager for a company that owned Butter-Nut Coffee in Omaha. The brand was acquired by Duncan Foods and eventually by Coke in the 1960s. Keough had a knack for muscling his way up the corporate ladder. Mr. Keough is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughters Kathleen Soto, Shayla Rumely and Eileen Millard; his sons Michael, Patrick and Clarke; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
