Mort contributes unparalleled institutional knowledge to the STORE Capital team, with companies he founded having successfully invested over $11 billion in single tenant commercial real estate assets since 1981. A seasoned veteran of the single tenant commercial real estate market for nearly four decades, this highly regarded serial entrepreneur has formed and managed more than 20 real estate companies — two of which he took public on the New York Stock Exchange. One of those companies was Spirit Finance Corporation, a real estate investment trust he co-founded in 2003 and took public a year later. He continued to lead the company as Chairman until February 2010. In the 1980s and 1990s, Mort also founded numerous real estate limited partnerships, which served as predecessors to Franchise Finance Corporation of America (FFCA), a real estate investment trust he formed and took public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1994. Mort served as FFCA’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until the company was acquired by GE Capital Corporation in 2001. Mort holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., from which he was awarded its Distinguished Business Alumni Award in 1993.
