William P. “Pat” Getty became President of the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation Jan. 1, 1999. Pat, a native Pittsburgher, is a graduate of Trinity College and Georgetown University Law School. He had practiced law since 1970 with the Pittsburgh firm of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott prior to becoming president. In addition to his Vision Shared board position, Pat is a member of the Governing Board of Imagine West Virginia, Vision Shared’s independent policy institute. He also is a member of the West Virginia Jobs Cabinet and a member of the Advisory Board of the Partnerships for Teacher Quality Initiative. In Pittsburgh, he serves on the Steering Committee of “Power of 32,” a 32-county, four-state regional visioning project, and on the boards of the Allegheny Conference for Community Development, the Technology Collaborative, the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and LEAD Pittsburgh. He also serves on the Policy Committee of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission and is a Fellow of the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Politics. A graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, Pat was a founding board member and past chairman of the Fund for the Advancement of Minorities through Education Inc. (FAME). He is an Emeritus Trustee and past chairman of Shady Side Academy and was a past board member and chairman of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, where he was a founding member of the board of its Career Connections Charter High School in Pittsburgh. He is a past board member of Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania and current co-chairman of its Public Policy Committee. In addition, Pat continues in his role as a Trustee of the Benedum Foundation, which he became in 1994.
