Bret Koplow advises clients on a variety of complex food and drug law and general health law matters. Operating in both the regulatory and legislative arenas, Dr. Koplow represents clients before Congress, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other state and federal departments and agencies. His clients include manufacturers and marketers of drugs, biologics, medical devices, food, and dietary supplements, as well as trade associations, health care providers, and non-profit organizations. Dr. Koplow counsels clients on a wide range of matters related to FDA-regulated products and health care services, including drug and device safety; vaccine development; pandemic preparedness and bioterrorism countermeasures; clinical trial data disclosure; drug and device pricing, coverage, and reimbursement; medical product promotion and direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs; disease prevention and chronic disease management; federal funding opportunities and appropriations; mental health policy; health information technology; drug abuse and diversion; and patient safety and medication error. Before joining Patton Boggs, Dr. Koplow was a practicing clinical psychologist, most recently serving as Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals of Cleveland. In this position, he was responsible for hospital and medical residency administration, patient care, and teaching. Dr. Koplow has held directorships at numerous other health care and educational institutions, including Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Koplow has provided mental health policy advice in his role as Special Assistant to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. Appearing in dozens of broadcast and print media interviews, Dr. Koplow also has offered his authoritative analyses on a wide variety of topics.
