Tom is a retired executive of the W. R. Berkley Corporation where he was chairman of its subsidiary, Signet Star Holdings, Inc., W. R. Berkley's lead reinsurance company. At W. R. Berkley Tom helped form Berkley Capital Underwriters, LLC to offer tailored reinsurance solutions that combined risk with capital platform development. Prior to joining W. R. Berkley Corporation, Tom retired in May 2001 after 33 years of service from General Reinsurance Corporation and General Re Corporation, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. General Re Corporation merged with Berkshire Hathaway in December of 1998. He retired as President and Chief Operating Officer of General Reinsurance Corporation, and Executive Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of General Re Corporation, the holding company. During his years of service Tom served on numerous insurance/reinsurance committees dealing with industry issues and problems, including the insurance availability crises for medical malpractice, professional liability, and products liability during the late 1970''s and early 1980's. He appeared as a speaker and as a panel member for numerous industry trade and special interest associations. Tom is a native of Ava, Missouri, and graduated from Ava High School. He holds a master of arts degree in economics and marketing from Michigan State University, and a J.D. of Law degree from DePaul University. Tom and his wife, Camille, live in South Glastonbury, Connecticut.
