Robert S. Rifkind serves as Senior Counsel in Cravath’s Litigation Department. He retired from the Firm on December 31, 2001, and was named Senior Counsel in 2002. Mr. Rifkind is now regularly engaged as an arbitrator in transnational arbitrations. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Rifkind was a Board Member of Brandeis University and is currently Trustee Emeritus of The Charles H. Revson Foundation, a member of The Council on Foreign Relations, a Board Member of The Jacob Blaustein Institute for Advancement of Human Rights and a Board Member of The United Nations Association of the United States of America. Mr. Rifkind was born in New York. He received a B.A. summa cum laude from Yale College in 1958, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1961. Mr. Rifkind joined Cravath in 1962 and became a partner in 1971. From 1965 to 1968, he served as Assistant to the Solicitor General in the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
