Kate Smith represents clients with legislative interests in the areas of tax, federal appropriations, and health care. Prior to joining Hogan & Hartson, Kate was an associate with the Washington office of a leading law firm. She has served as an associate counsel to U.S House of Representatives Democratic leader Richard A. Gephardt where she handled policy and legislation in the areas of housing; civil rights; campaign finance; government reform; banking, including Glass Stiegal reform; insurance; and trade, including fast-track negotiating authority. As associate counsel to the Democratic leader and policy advisor to the Democratic Policy Committee, Kate worked extensively with members of the Democratic Caucus and their personal and committee staffs. While in law school, Kate served as an intern law clerk for the Honorable Catherine Perry of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri.
