Ellen practices within the firm's energy and climate change industry team, assisting clients with business and strategic matters including issues relating to state and federal regulation. She has more than 30 years of experience in a range of areas in the energy sector, including strategic planning, compliance, environmental health and safety, state and federal regulation, and external relations strategy. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Ellen served as a senior executive with Duke Energy. She was president of the office of nuclear development for Duke Energy where she was responsible for expanding its nuclear capabilities in the Carolinas, including the Lee Nuclear Station in Cherokee County. Prior to that, she served as president of Duke Energy Carolinas, which provides power to more than 2.4 million customers across more than 24,000 square miles in North and South Carolina. She began her career at Duke Power in the general counsel’s office, ultimately serving as senior vice president and general counsel of corporate, gas and electric operations before moving to the business side of the organization.
