James Beck attended Harvard College as an undergraduate. Today, he is a trained psychiatrist (Harvard Medical School and Mass Mental Health Center) and psychologist (Yale University). Currently, Dr. Beck has clinical teaching duties at Cambridge Health Alliance and conducts clinical research. He also sees patients, and evaluates a wide variety of people involved with the law-- persons facing a death sentence, police officers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other problems that arise in a legal or adversarial context. For most of Dr. Beck's life, he has worked as a public sector psychiatrist, and maintains an enduring clinical commitment to disadvantaged and vulnerable patient populations. He is also a non-resident tutor of Pforzheimer House and focuses on helping undergraduate students pursuing a career in medicine.
