Protective Life Corporation is pleased to announce that Mary Pat Lawrence has joined the Company as Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, effective September 10 2018. In this position, Lawrence will play an instrumental role in Protective’s state and federal legislative affairs, as well as regulatory matters. Lawrence joins Protective from Allstate Insurance Company, where she served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, holding responsibility for legislative and regulatory affairs. In addition to managing Allstate’s federal affairs office, she also represented the company in various industry associations, including the Financial Services Roundtable, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the American Council of Life Insurers. Prior to joining Allstate, Lawrence was a Principal at Dentons US LLP where she co-managed the Advocacy team and was responsible for lobbying for a number of financial services, education and agriculture clients. Prior to her time at Dentons, she also served as an Associate Vice President at Van Scoyoc Associates. Lawrence is a graduate of The University of Alabama and The University of Alabama School of Law. Mary Pat Lawrence is Associate Vice President and Counsel for Van Scoyoc Associates (VSA), where she is responsible for providing support to clients and assisting them in identifying funding sources, developing projects and advocating requests to the United States Congress and federal agencies. Prior to joining VSA, Lawrence worked on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), where she served as a Counsel from April 2001 to July 2003 under U. S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL). Lawrence also served as a Legislative Counsel in the office of U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) where she dealt with legislation considered by the Judiciary Committee. Lawrence graduated from the University of Alabama in May of 1997 and the University of Alabama School of Law in May of 2000. She is currently a member of the Alabama State Bar. Lawrence also served on the Shelby for U.S. Senate campaign in 1996. Ms. Lawrence is a member of Sonnenschein’s Public Law & Policy Strategies Practice. She assists clients in developing projects, identifying funding sources, and advocating requests to Congress and federal agencies. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, Ms. Lawrence was an Associate Vice President and Counsel for Van Scoyoc Associates.
