s Chief of Staff, Sal Giametta is responsible for the overall management and day to day operations of Supervisor Ron Roberts’ office. Prior to joining Team Roberts in August of 2009, Sal was vice president of public affairs and communications for the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau. Working at the bureau from December 1992 to March 2009, Sal was primarily responsible for media, community and government relations. He served as the organization’s principal spokesperson and liaison to local civic, business and community groups. Widely recognized for his extensive contributions to San Diego’s visitor industry, Sal is the 2008 recipient of the San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association’s prestigious Gold Key Award. Before joining the bureau in December of 1992, Sal served as a top aide to former San Diego Mayor Maureen O’Connor. His areas of responsibility included downtown redevelopment and service as the mayor’s liaison to environmental groups, arts organizations and the tourism industry. Sal has served on the boards of numerous community and civic organizations including the Downtown San Diego Partnership, Little Italy Association, San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Film Commission, Cabrillo National Monument Association, and the San Diego Press Club. He currently serves as a mayoral appointee to the city of San Diego’s Board of Library Commissioners. The 2004 recipient of the San Diego Press Club’s award for outstanding contributions in the field of public relations, Sal is a San Diego native and a graduate of San Diego State University where he double-majored in Journalism (emphasis in public relations) and Political Science.
