A native San Diegan whose roots run three-generations deep, Dianne Jacob was re-elected to San Diego County Board of Supervisors for an historic sixth term in 2012. The San Diego State University alumna is proud to represent the more than 620,000 constituents who live in the dynamic Second District, including more than 270,000 unincorporated residents. The district is the largest of the five and covers more than 2,000 square miles. It includes all of the unincorporated communities in East County, including the Ramona and Julian areas, and the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Santee and Poway, and communities of Allied Gardens, College Area, Del Cerro, Grantville, Navajo, Rolando and San Carlos in the City of San Diego. Dianne has earned a reputation as a fighter, fighting for fundamental changes to make County government more accountable to taxpayers- the people who pay the bills. From transforming the region's fire protection system after the largest fire disaster in California history to posting information about registered sex offenders on the Internet, Dianne doesn't back down from a challenge. At a community event, Dianne was once introduced as, "... a woman who has the guts to do the right thing, even though it's not the popular thing." In 2014, Dianne took on another huge challenge – the epidemic of Alzheimer’s disease. She initiated the creation of The Alzheimer’s Project, a regional initiative to find a cure and help those with the disease and their caregivers. Worried about the growing toll of the disease on local families and taxpayers, Dianne has been working with world-class researchers, health care professionals, elected officials and others to address its devastating impact. She has also spearheaded efforts to improve County oversight of assisted living facilities, and has been working with facilities to develop a rating system to guide consumers looking for quality care. These efforts have drawn national recognition. The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging has given San Diego County two Aging Achievement Awards – one for The Alzheimer’s Project, the other for the rating system initiative. Supervisor Jacob has been honored with Legislator of the Year Awards from the California Narcotics Officers Association, the Border Solution Task Force, the Industrial Environmental Association, the San Diego Merchants Association, the San Diego Domestic Violence Council, the Building Owners and Managers Association and Lean Energy U.S.. She is also a recipient of the Women Who Mean Business Award from The San Diego Business Journal and was named Alumna of the Year for San Diego State University, College of Education. She is a San Diego County School Board Hall of Fame inductee, a recipient of the Ninth District P.T.A. Honorary Service Award and a member of the San Diego Alumnae chapter of Gamma Phi Beta. Forum Publications named her Most Accessible Politician and she received the Award of Excellence by the Endangered Habitats League. For her efforts to expose corruption and bring about a leadership overhaul at the San Diego/Imperial Counties chapter of the American Red Cross, she was interviewed by CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace and appeared on television's "60 Minutes." She was listed among the San Diego Press Club's distinguished "Headliners of the Year" for 2002. In 2006, Supervisor Jacob received Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s inaugural California Recreational Trails Committee Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions in support of trails in California. Prior to her election to the Board of Supervisors, Dianne worked as a teacher in the East County, and was a member of the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District Board for 17 years. She was active in the California School Boards Association and served as its President in 1987.
