At BIO, Barrett was responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s legislative efforts in the U.S. Senate, covering issues such as Medicare, Medicaid reimbursement, follow-on biologic legislation and patent reform legislation. BIO is comprised of more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations across the United States and 31 other nations. In addition, he worked with the group’s policy and communication departments to implement strategic, issue-based policy campaigns tied to the group’s legislative priorities. Prior to his work with BIO, Barrett worked in the office of U.S. Senator Mike Crapo as his health policy legislative assistant. He also worked in a similar capacity for two U.S. Representatives, the Honorable Patrick Toomey and the late Honorable Charlie Norwood, then Vice-Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and is expecting his J.D. from Georgetown Law School.
