Dermatologist Katie Rodan co-created acne treatment Proactiv and launched skin-care company Rodan + Fields with longtime business partner Kathy Fields. Since buying back Rodan + Fields from Estée Lauder in 2007, the duo took the brand out of department stores and into direct selling. The move has paid off: Revenues hit $627 million in 2015, up 90% from the previous year, with more than 150,000 independent consultants peddling products. After expanding into Canada in early 2015, the pair is now planning further international growth, starting with Australia in 2017. In April, Fields and Rodan sold their royalties to Proactiv to a joint venture between Guthy-Renker and Nestle, which markets the product. Rodan is also an adjunct associate professor of dermatology at Stanford Medical School and has a private practice in Oakland, Calif. She met Fields while they were dermatology residents at Stanford. They've written two books together and are regularly featured in national magazines and TV shows. Bachelor of Arts / Science, University of Virginia; Medical Doctor, University of Southern California
